Search Section

Assignment 1: (Using Search Engines) (past due Tuesday, June 6th 12:00 AM)
bl_pin.gif (1016 bytes) Read about search engines in Tutorial 4 of text. Next select a topic, of your choice, for this exercise. Then choose an engine from one of the categories (Directory, Indexes, Meta Search) and search your topic. Let me know if the search engine you selected gives you the type of information you want. Then using the same topic select a different type of engine from a different category and compare the two types of engines you used then email me a brief synopsis about your search results. (Information should include search engines used, which category they belong to, how many hits you got with each engine, which engine better suited your needs). (The use of Boolean expressions is acceptable. To view boolean expressions for a particular search engine, use the help section for each one).

I'm looking for information about mail lists (Web Tutorial 7). What I want you to do is to find a two different lists (one of them cannot be the mail list for this class) that you would like to participate in...This could be anything from people who like the color green to video gamers to professional certification mail lists. 

You need to send me (for both mail lists) the below information:

    1) the name and topic of each list, 
    2) how did you join each list, 
    3) if list is moderated or not, 
   
4) how to you post a question to the list, 
    5) does your list have an archive section, if so how do you access it, and 
    6) lastly, how to unsubscribe from the list. 

Just to forewarn you, some list will generate 100's of emails daily, just be ready.

 Assignment 5: (images) (past due Sunday, 16 July by 11:59 PM)
bl_pin.gif (1016 bytes) Do a search on images, backgrounds, animated gif,  etc. Find a couple of different images for a background, then a couple more images of any type of pictures or you can use  your own, electronic pix. Found three different images and put on one of your page. Then email me the sites you used. If you created your own image, let me know what tools you used.

Assignment 6: (Finding specific information about a topic) (Due 1 August by 11:59 PM  )

Your script can be anything from a clock to a javascript game to password protecting a page. If you choose to use a password, please let me know so that I may access the page. Pay close attention to where the code needs to be placed. (most code goes inside the body but some require you to actually load the script from within the body)

 Assignment 2: (Posting your web page on the Internet) (past due Thursday, June 22 at 11:59 PM)

The hosting site can be either through your employer, your ISP or on any of the numerous free sites on the web. Once you have completed HTML assignments 1 and 2, email me with the URL of your site.

or you could do a search to find other free web hosting sites. Keep in mind, with the above mention sites, there are usually advertisements involved.
