Assignment 2: (Signing up for an AOL Instant Messenger Account) (past due Monday, May 29th 12:00 AM)
Create an AOL Instant Messenger Account, then email me your logon name. Once I've received everyone's logon/ screen name, I'll email the class everyone's id.

Search Section

Assignment 1: (Using Search Engines) (past due Tuesday, June 6th 12:00 AM)
Read about search engines in Tutorial 4 of text. Next select a topic, of your choice, for this exercise. Then choose an engine from one of the categories (Directory, Indexes, Meta Search) and search your topic. Let me know if the search engine you selected gives you the type of information you want. Then using the same topic select a different type of engine from a different category and compare the two types of engines you used then email me a brief synopsis about your search results. (Information should include search engines used, which category they belong to, how many hits you got with each engine, which engine better suited your needs). (The use of Boolean expressions is acceptable. To view boolean expressions for a particular search engine, use the help section for each one).

Assignment 2: (Using Search Engines) (past due Tuesday, June 6th 12:00 AM)
This assignment is an extension of Search assignment 1.  Taking the same topic, use the third type of engine, the one you didn't use in the first assignment. Then compare this to the results you got from the first assignment. Let me know which type of engine work best for you.

Assignment 3: (searching a specific topic) (past due Monday, June 12th 12:00 AM)
Find the answers to the following question then email your results.  (please follow the given example for turn-in)

Assignment 4: (finding a mail list and joining) (past due Monday, June 12th 12:00 AM)
I'm looking for information about mail lists (Web Tutorial 7). What I want you to do is to find a two different lists (one of them cannot be the mail list for this class) that you would like to participate in...This could be anything from people who like the color green to video gamers to professional certification mail lists. 

You need to send me (for both mail lists) the below information:

    1) the name and topic of each list, 
    2) how did you join each list, 
    3) if list is moderated or not, 
    4) how to you post a question to the list, 
    5) does your list have an archive section, if so how do you access it, and 
    6) lastly, how to unsubscribe from the list. 

Just to forewarn you, some list will generate 100's of emails daily, just be ready.

 Assignment 5: (images) (past due Sunday, 16 July by 11:59 PM)
Do a search on images, backgrounds, animated gif,  etc. Find a couple of different images for a background, then a couple more images of any type of pictures or you can use  your own, electronic pix. Found three different images and put on one of your page. Then email me the sites you used. If you created your own image, let me know what tools you used.

Assignment 6: (Finding specific information about a topic) (Due 1 August by 11:59 PM  )
Do a search on javascripts. Find a script that you like, and place the code on one of your pages. Your script can be anything from a clock to a javascript game to password protecting a page. If you choose to use a password, please let me know so that I may access the page. Pay close attention to where the code needs to be placed. (most code goes inside the body but some require you to actually load the script from within the body)

HTML & Web Pages Section

Assignment 1: (First web page) (past due Thursday, June 22 at 11:59 PM)
This assignment involves creating a single web page with the following criteria. See HTML lectures 1 , 2 and 3

 Assignment 2: (Posting your web page on the Internet) (past due Thursday, June 22 at 11:59 PM)
For this assignment, you are to find a web hosting site, and post your first page on the web. The hosting site can be either through your employer, your ISP or on any of the numerous free sites on the web. Once you have completed HTML assignments 1 and 2, email me with the URL of your site.

free sites on web include:

   http://www.fortunecity.com
    http://www.theglobe.com
    http://www.angelfire.com
    http://www.tripod.com
    http://www.geocities.com

or you could do a search to find other free web hosting sites. Keep in mind, with the above mention sites, there are usually advertisements involved. 

Assignment 3: (Second Web Page) (past due Wednesday, June 28 at 11:59 PM)
This assignment involves creating another web page which should include at least one image and a link from your first page to this page.

Assignment 4: (Third Web Page) (past due Wednesday, June 28 at 11:59 PM)
This assignment involves creating another web page using a table. Your table should include at least three rows with two columns, you can have more if you want or need more rows and columns (the minimum requirement is 3 rows and 2 columns)

Assignment 5: (Fourth Web Page) (past due Sunday, 16 July by 11:59 PM) 
This assignment is to build a frames page.  Your  need at least two frames for this assignment and you can reference  existing pages or you can develop new ones.

Assignment 6: (Fifth Web Page) (due Friday, 21 July by 11:59 PM)
 This page is totally up to you.  There are two requirement 1) is to have a link to it from the first (initial page) and 2) have a link from it to an external page (a page not in your site)

Assignment 7: (Sixth Web Page) (due Friday, 21 July by 11:59 PM)
 Again, this page is totally up to you.  The only requirement is to have a link to it from the first (initial page)

Assignment 8: (2-Part Assignment Part 2) (Due Tuesday, 1 August by 11:59 PM  )
 Put the javascript code you acquired from search onto one of your pages. Make sure it works. Please read carefully all the necessary modifications you'll need to make to your page.
